Mikef Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I know...another heater question... We had the first real frost of the winter this morning, and the aux heater on the Galaxy just didn't seem to kick in. It took me 30 mins to get to work, and things were only just heating up then. I seem to recall last year it would heat up the Gal quite quickly, just sitting on the drive with the engine running. I'm sure I couldnt hear the 'clicking' noise, which I think is the pump. How long does it take to heat up other peoples cars? cheers mikef Quote
Guest MATT Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 well, i don't know exactly, but it takes me about 20 mins to get to work, and im warm in about ten mins of leaving the house, that's with aux on, and front heater blower things. was very cold this morning, even had me gloves on!!! Ogben Schmutzel Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 It isn't working - just like mine isn't!! <_< :( With the ambient air temp in the mid 40's F and from a stone cold car, it took about 8 miles before the temp gauge even started to move! Double that mileage before it started to get anywhere near normal. Regards.Oggy. Quote
johnb80 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 My journey to work is 2 miles, 30 & 40 limits. This morning the water temp was at ione quarter i.e. halfway up towards 90 deg when I got to work. Aux heater was on full bore, nice turbine sound winding down as I left my car. Regards - JB Quote
Mikef Posted November 15, 2005 Author Report Posted November 15, 2005 Thanks Chaps, I seem to be getting the turbine noise but no heat....so looks like a trip to the garage again... ta mikef Quote
Jeff115 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Sounds like booster heater glow plug trouble :P , mikef - join the gang. I'd agree with johnb80's experience of booster heating having my own expeeiences with and without boost - you definitely get heat within a couple of minutes with it compared to > 20 without boost - (depending on driving i.e. tdi will heat up quicker under load) Regards,J. _dg Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Can someone just clarify if this auxillary heater that is often talked about, relates to the diesels, or is it the same auxillary heater that the petrol cars have for heating the rear load area? Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 They are different. Petrol Quote
Mikef Posted November 28, 2005 Author Report Posted November 28, 2005 I haven't taken my Gal to a garage yet..but does anyone know if there is a way to 'fool' the aux heater into action? Is it more effective if you put the air con on? cheers mikef Quote
Guest rippedoffandangry Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 History: I had the pre-heater replaced 2.5 years ago, the white smoke problem was happening in April/May well above 5 centrigrade. I was charged Quote
tim-spam Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Billowing white smoke is due either to too much fuel or insufficient air. Mine has only ever emitted a small amount of visible smoke when the atmosphere is very cold and damp. Quote

VeeDub Nutter Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I agree with MM.I had the same problem, fitted a 10A mini fuse & mine seems to work better now. Quote
Mikef Posted December 7, 2005 Author Report Posted December 7, 2005 Hmmm mine is at the garage today, having the heater looked at. Just had a call, needs an entire new heater unit, which is Quote
Guest Hankinson Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 A whole new heater!? Can't be right. I have dismantled mine [see earlier posts on another thread ref de-gunging diesel soot] and these boosters are well made robust assemblies, so it seems a shame to just ditch it. Of course the garage won't have time to dismantle, clean, replace a component and reassemble. They'd do that in the old days but not in out throw-away world. Hey, I'd better stop - I'm getting sentimental. Mine is back in its place but with the elec lead not connected. I'm waiting for a 2 part gasket set which is on its way from nearby dealer of Uberspacher. I ordered the set by phone today. On Sat. I hope to fit these news gaskets and get it back working without the billowing smoke problem that I had. Alan Quote

Mikef Posted December 9, 2005 Author Report Posted December 9, 2005 OK, mildly chilly morning here, touch of frost on the car... Galaxy was running on the driveway for 5 minutes, no warm air...on the road for around 4 minutes, there was a warm tinge to the air. aghagahagahagha I have no idea if this is normal or not. Should I expect oodles of warm air within minutes? I didn't have the air con swicthed on, I didn't have the 'recycle internal air' function switched on either. off for coffee..sob.. m Quote
Bigjeeze Posted December 9, 2005 Report Posted December 9, 2005 I think you're hoping for a bit much!! My Heating was knackered so I changed the Glow plug and it is now working - But it still takes around 10mins to produce decent heat - By the time I take my son to school and come back the temp gauge is between cold and Normal - and the car is starting to warm. Around a 3 mile trip. I think you need to give it a little longer than you are. Quote

Masked Marauder Posted December 9, 2005 Report Posted December 9, 2005 Iwas (and still am) looking into getting the heater to come on on a timer. It will need several modifications though. Hence my request for an old heater.... Quote
